Q: iPad and iPhone to Apple TV mirroring option not displaying any suggestions please

MY Apple TV connection to iPad or iPhone does not give me the option to mirror, any suggestions please. Could it be connected to re updates, would I need to update the Apple TV also?

iPad Mini, iOS 9.2, Apple tv
