Oct 7, 2015 5:08 PM in response to marcogreselinby Linc Davis,From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari â–¹ Preferences... â–¹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Oct 8, 2015 5:42 AM in response to Linc Davisby marcogreselin,I didn't have any extensions. Seems to work now but when i click enter it selects the text in the search string instead of escaping which is a bit ugly.
Thanks

Nov 27, 2015 6:28 AM in response to marcogreselinby ho238,Hi there, I also have this problem too. I have tried to turn off and remove all the extensions, reset safari, the issue persist. Now almost 80% of my search make on the address bar failed to connect to google, right after I key enter to initiate the search, the blue progress bar run a bit but remain at similar location for sometime , which is too long that I lose my patient and do something else, after a while when I return to that very tab running google search, safari said fail to connect blah blah blah.
I strongly believe this problem is related to google search only, since I have tried all other available search engine on safari, they all response swiftly but google one.

Dec 5, 2015 6:05 PM in response to ho238by lukatibo,I am so happy to see two people experiencing the exact same issue as me and at the same time! I was going crazy.
I have spend hours on the web chat and on the phone support with Apple regarding this. Only a problem with safari, El Capitan, 10.11.1 latest updates.
This is seriously the worst experience I ever had after having used every single itteration of OS X.
Apple support ended up making me erase my hard drive and re-install El Capitan.
The problem remains! No Safari extensions, no DNS nonesense etc. The problems just appeared out of the blue and is probably linked to the latest El Capitan update.I even spoke to Google phone support and also my internet provider.
The issue is an Apple issue. El Capitan is basically turning into a pile of unbearable bugs.
The last person I spoke to was an Apple Phone adviser and he advised me to install Mavericks instead! Haha what a joke...
So yeah, to summarize, Safari has become unusable and Apple wasted my time for hours and did not offer a solution to what I believe is a problem they created. I am writing this message from Firefox...
I am hoping someone will find a fix, my guess is it won't come from Apple as Quality Assurance is a thing of the past when it comes to OS X or iOS.

Dec 12, 2015 2:55 PM in response to lukatiboby scot34,Have had the same intermittent problem with Google searches since I "upgraded" to El Capitan. Not an upgrade when your browser no longer works with Google. All other search engines work fine. Google Mail is also victim to this since the"upgrade". Have tried everything to clear it up but nothing works.
I am glad that I am not alone with this as I believe the problem is with the new OS. Apple admits nothing from my conversations with them. There was a reason I waited years to upgrade and I am sorry I did as nothing in this OS is better than what I was running. Now that everything revolves around "sharing" and the "cloud" basic functions and dependability take a back seat.

Dec 13, 2015 10:19 AM in response to scot34by Corneliussen,Same problem here with El Capitain. Soon going crazy...
Everything works in safari - except - sometimes - google sites, google search does not work. And the browser is just stuck. Then suddenly it works again. Very very annoying. When I use chrome as browser there is no problems..
I suspect some DNS related problem with safari
Hope this can be fixed. Im reluctant to use chrome as default browser.
I use
OSX El Capitain
Imac Late 2013
3.2 Ghz
8GB
Best regards
Søren.

Dec 15, 2015 4:58 AM in response to marcogreselinby RemarkableHQ,I'm experiencing the exact same problem and this only happened when I upgraded to El Capitain.
Google searches from iOS work fine. Yahoo and Bing searches from Safari on El Capitain work fine.
As soon as I try a Google search from the address bar in Safari (El Capitain) , it stalls for a while and then says it can't connect.
I have to keep trying over and over, after a while it starts to work.
Apple Support claims they have received no complaints about this.
No help. Very annoying. Next time I'll wait a while before I upgrade until all bugs are found and fixed.
Safari 9.0.2
El Capitain 10.11.2
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)
Processor 4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB

Dec 19, 2015 3:25 PM in response to lukatiboby BuggSuperstar,Same problem here! it is driving me nuts!!! I find that turning wifi off/on and it will work again for about 5 minutes....
-
Dec 19, 2015 3:34 PM in response to BuggSuperstarby RemarkableHQ,Same here. I actually forgot to mention that in my last post. I notice that if I turn wi-fi off and then back on, Google searching then works with no problem, but if I put my computer to sleep for a while, when wake it back up - same Google search problem. I then have to turn off wi-fi and then turn it back on again. When I do that, it works as long as my computer doesn't go to sleep.

Dec 20, 2015 3:17 AM in response to marcogreselinby ralphik,I have the same problem but it's not only for El Capitan as I got my computer with Yosemite (macbook 12) and there was same issue and now updated to El Capitan and still the same. I need to disconnect from wifi and connect again very frequently but I've noticed that it's when I'm trying to search from url bar.

Dec 20, 2015 7:15 AM in response to ralphikby SpittingLamaMIDI,I am having this problem in Yosemite - it appears to be a Safari Version 9.0.2 (10601.3.9) problem. I click a result from a url bar google search and it fails while trying to load what appears to be a google referenced page. I never usually see a google reference in the url bar - I just go directly to the line page/file. I don't know if that's odd or has anything to do with the problem. It is irritating...
