Q: TC internet hangs on all devices every few minutes
Hello all! I have a model A1470 Time Capsule Router that I am having problems with. After owning it for a few months a thing started happening where every 20 minutes or so the internet would hang, as in webpages would fail to load on all devices. All you can do is wait about 5 minutes and then it will come back. Sometimes it would go a couple hours with no problems but usually it's pretty frequent. I tried a factory reset using the small button on the back of the TC, but no luck. Next I tried downgrading the firmware to a previous version, but no previous versions are available and the current version is the only option. My modem is new and is a Motorola SB6183 (the problem happened before and after buying this new modem by the way, the old modem was also a motorola). I have had the ISP check the modem on their end and all was fine. My last attempt at a fix was installing an old ASUS router I had, which works perfectly and the connection issues are gone. I would obviously like to use the TC instead though, but can't until I figure out what is wrong and how to fix it. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas on a possible fix? Thank you!

Your problem is common.. It is the SB modem and the AC airport combo. (Affects both the TC and AE)
Substantially both are fine in and of themselves.. although I would reserve judgment on the TC. When tested with any other routers the SB modem is fine.. and the TC works fine with other selected modems.. although the choices must be carefully made.. there is definitely an issue. Apple have never acknowledged or attempted to fix it. I am still not sure the exact problem.. as I cannot replicate it with my own issues on the TC.
For now you have two choices..
Replace the cable modem.. the zoom is recommended to work well.

OR
Substitute a better router. Exactly what you did.

As long as the Asus is up to the load, you can just it merely as a router.. no wireless. (although it is fine to also use wireless from both asus and TC)
Plug the TC into it, and use TC in bridge mode.. then you can setup the TC for handling wireless in your network as well as TM backups. As long as it is not working as router it will run fine.
