Q: I just got a Chromecast Audio. How do I play my iphone itunes music with it?

I'm excited to have a way to listen to high quality music streamed to my stereo, but I can't figure out how to broadcast it from my iPhone itunes library to my Chromecast. I can play music to my Apple TV but my stereo is in my office.

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.1

Don't have Chromecast but from the few articles I found through Google, it does not appear that Apple Music is supporting the Chromecast accessory at this point.

Perhaps someone else can chime in if there is a way.

Assuming your sound system has a standard 3.5mm audio jack, consider getting an AirPort Express. Then you can AirPlay from your iPhone to the sound system, no "Chromecast" required.

Play iTunes music on your speakers. Wirelessly.

AirPlay takes the music from the iTunes library on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and sends it wirelessly to any stereo or speakers in your home. Simply connect your speakers to AirPort Express using an audio cable (sold separately). Then, using iTunes on your computer or the Music app on your iOS device, choose which speakers you want your music to play on. If you have more than one AirPort Express connected to speakers, you can play the same music from iTunes on your Mac or PC on all your speakers at the same time. Already have a Wi‑Fi network in place? Use AirPort Express to add music streaming to its capabilities and create a whole‑house musical experience.

I Have just bought a Chromecast Audio too and tbh I feel a bit cheated ( well, as much as you can be cheated out of £25). All over the box it says compatible with iPhone, iPad etc and then you try it at home and iTunes won't play through it. As far as I can see, it's a medium for playing streaming service through, which isn't my thing, and mostly premium streaming at that. I only wanted to play the music I have paid for through it. Isn't that what we keep being told we should do? The Airport Express is probably the answer but it's £79 when I have already wasted £25, so I won't bother. I'd return it but the box is open and I can't be bothered with the hassle which is probably what they rely on. Generally disappointed with both the Chromecast and the fact that Apple won't let their products work with it.

I, too, have all local content. I use itunes (PC) to manage it. Must sync to andoid device for chromecast audio to stream.

It IS a shame. I'll friggen go back to mediamonkey....so tired of migrating playlists....

I'm streaming my iTunes content to my chromecast through allcast. You can find it in the appstore. It also carries over your playlists. Nice app.

    Brilliant! Thanks.

I have tried it and it seems to work well, though on some tunes it says casting is not available on Allcast

    Hi,

I bought a chromecast audio today and it IS possible to get it to play with iTunes.  However it will NOT do it straight out of the box.  If you search the web you will find soundflower 2.0b2 and soundcast 1.6. These give clear instructions on how to cast to a chromecast from iTunes.  It does work but be aware that when you set up soundflower correctly you can no longer hear music through the Mac's own speakers.  You have to select soundflower as the input and output choice in the Sound item of system preferences once you have downloaded it.  Then you can download soundcast. You will probably need to go to the Security and Privacy settings in System preferences in order to load these applications as they are not available from the App Store.  I think you also have to set up your chromecast initially using an ios device eg an iphone using the chromecast app.  I then tested everything was working OK from the iPhone using TuneIn Radio. Once this is done you do not need the iPhone again and can pretty well forget about the chromecast.  Most people advise leaving it switched on permanently.

Is this all fiddly?  Yes but not too tricky if you have about an hour to spare and know your way around your Mac system preferences.  Sound quality  seems good to me but your mileage may vary.  Overall worth the effort to make use of an old but high quality stereo setup.  Here is a good place to start.

THIS IS FANTASTIC! I have a wireless harddrive where everything is backed up and I usually play music streaming from that or from Amazon music and neither was working with the chromecast app. allcast saved me. THANKS

    Hello there,

I just purchased Chromecast Audio today and I downloaded the allcast app (free version) onto my iPhone 6 so that I could play the music from my iTunes library rather than having to stream music from online. I find, however, that allcast is very laggy/slow. For example, when I press the "play" button to start/play a song, there is at least a 4-5 second delay before anything happens. Another example is when a song ends, again it takes around 4-5 seconds before the next song begins. Or when I press the "next" button to go to the next song, again it takes 4-5 seconds before the request processes. Have you or anyone else experienced this problem as well? I would love to know how to fix it. I thought that maybe downloading the premium version might fix this problem, but I don't want to spend money until I know for sure.

    Thank you!
