Q: Why is there no data or photos in my ICloud Drive on my iPhone 6s?

Every thing is setup properly in Settings on my 6s for ICloud and the ICLOUD Drive app, but nothing appears when I open ICloud Drive on my phone.  it has been backed up, turned the drive on and off and on again in Settings, still only 2 docs appear from another word processing app.

Backups to iCloud cannot be viewed or used for anything except for doing a full restore. If you have Settings > iCloud > Photos > iCloud Photo Library turned on, the photos are saved in the Photos app on iCloud and are viewable on the phone via the Photos app there (the same photos are on both the phone and iCloud). You can use a computer and log in to https://www.icloud.com/ and see the various sections/Apps of iCloud to get a better idea of what is in iCloud Drive and what is not. For the most part, what is in iCloud Drive will be documents and other files that you specifically save to that location. More information: iCloud Drive FAQ - Apple Support

Thank you to Gregory and Fox fifth.  I see now that what I was trying to find in Icloud is not possible on my IPhone.  Your help is much appreciated.

so, what's the point of even having it? Isn't the Cloud ethereal enough without having to guess what's on it? I'd like to have some point of reference as to what's there

Open a web browser on your computer and log in to https://icloud.com using your iCloud ID and password, and you will see exactly what is in the iCloud apps. iCloud backups will not appear, but you can view their metadata on the phone in Settings/General/Storage. You can only see the number of backups and their size; you can't see into the backups because they are in an encrypted binary format. You can restore a backup to your phone, but that is all you can do with it. If you do restore it the phone will be wiped clean and any previous data will be replaced by the contents of the backup. You can also see the storage allocated to each type of content in the backup.
