Nov 18, 2015 8:27 PM in response to ipadproby Meg St._Clair,WiFi is pretty much always wifi. The Apple TV should connect to an WiFi (other than captive portal). We use Comcast and I have my ATV 4 (and before that my ATV 2) connected to it.

Dec 22, 2015 7:12 PM in response to Meg St._Clairby insuspence,Xfinity is a captive wifi portal which is still not supported by Apple TV. A captive portal is the type of wifi connection that doesn't take a straight password, instead you go to a webpage and have to sign in with a username, aggree to a user aggreement or both. To my knowledge the newest roku 4 and the amazon fire tv/stick are the only streaming boxes that support captive portals. I was really disappointed by this. I recieved an apple tv 4 as a gift but just found out i can't travel with it next week, because most public wifi uses captive portals (hotels and dorms).

Dec 23, 2015 4:11 PM in response to dmaddxby insuspence,THeres some misunderstanding going on here. This is not about the xfinity internet service or their tv app. This is about connecting to the wifi signals named "xfinity" which wont allow you to connect to the internet unless you sign in with a comcast account. Apple TVs simply dont have this ability yet.

Dec 23, 2015 4:15 PM in response to insuspenceby vazandrew,It simply involves contacting the provider in order to connect the ATV to that network.

Dec 23, 2015 6:37 PM in response to insuspenceby ~Bee,Sorry if I'm repeating myself.
I have Comcast xfinity.
I got a brand new 4th Gen. ATV last weekend.
It was hooked up in no time.
My only surprise was that I still had to use the Comcast remote to change channels when not using the ATV mode.
In the ATV mode, I was signed up and working in under a half hour.

Dec 23, 2015 8:00 PM in response to ~Beeby insuspence,Captive portal wifi is not dependent on xfinity. its a technology used to make public wifi access points more secure. http://www.cnet.com/news/amazon-fire-tv-gets-captive-portal-access-for-hotel-dor m-and-apartment-wi-fi-access-hands-on/. Starbucks has been using it for years. We're still talking about separate things.
