Dec 22, 2015 9:21 PM in response to Zaibi786by ChrisJ4203,This is the only support document referring to the Wi-Fi being grayed out. If Wi-Fi is grayed out or dim on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
More than likely it is a hardware problem, and you will need to replace the device.

Jan 7, 2016 4:38 PM in response to Zaibi786by Ozzarotti,This affected many thousands of 4S phones, there we're too many complaints about it to be anything other than a hardware or manufacturing issue. My 4S and a colleagues also failed after an iOS update many moons ago. Apple must have known exactly what the hardware issue was, but kept a low profile, other than suggesting a "reset" fix. The 4S was a great phone and if you don't need/use wifi it still is! http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Nov2013/apple-issue-fix-for-wifi-greyed-out-problem.html
