Q: How to change your recue address

I recently tried changing my Apple I.D to a current recue address, and received the following message below.

I then tried looking for the Rescue address to alter this, as I want my Apple I.D to be my rescue address, however I'm unable to allocate this information to make amendments, any suggestions?

You will first need to change your Rescue email address.
Then you can use the old rescue email address as your AppleID.
