Q: Removing a corrupt contacts server file

For some reason my server's contacts datafile appears to be corrupt.  The file had no groups within it until yesterday when suddenly there appeared about 20 or more groups titles "address book"  I have saved all the addresses in a VCF file and removed them all from the server, but still these groups persist.  I wold like to completely delete the Contacts datafile and reimport the VCF.  How might I do that?

I just counted this morning and I have 263 groups called "addressbook" created which show up on my other apple devices.  I have found the directory for Calendar and Contacts and I am able to look inside.  Is there something that I can do which will eliminate the empty contacts file without affecting the calendar?  Do I need to save all my calendar entries and blow away the whole directory and restore it from a backup?  I am reluctant to do that since I do not want to lose recent calendar entries.
