Q: Solution for Bootcamp 6 error on Windows 10

I've had the same problem as many of you when trying to install Bootcamp 6 on my Windows 10 machine. The error about "not valid boot camp service" and wrong "bootcamp.msi" and "The installed product does not match the installation source(s)" kept popping up.

Here's what I did to fix it:

  • Create a restore point (just in case)
  • Make sure you downloaded BootCamp 6 via "Apple Software Update" (will also work if Apple releases the files directly for download)
  • Navigate to C:\Users\{yourUsername}\AppData\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update\ (you might need to turn on "Show hidden files" in Explorer if you can't see it), there you'll see a file called AppleBcUpdate.exe. Either open WinRar or rename that file to "AppleBcUpdate.exe.zip" (you might need to turn on "Show file extensions in Explorer) and double click it. Extract the two folders in there to the root of D:\ or C:\ (doesn't really matter).
  • Click the start button and type in "regedit". Right click -> Run as administrator
  • Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products and find the folder "A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26". Rename that folder to something like "_A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26" or whatever. You can also export it (as a backup) and then just delete it.
  • Close regedit.
  • Click the start button and type in "cmd". Right click -> Run as administrator
  • Type in "D:" (if you extract BootCamp to D:\). Then "cd BootCamp\Drivers\Apple". Now type in "BootCamp.msi" and hit enter.
  • The installer should now run through fine.
  • Restart your computer, even if you're not prompted to do so.

This is what worked for me. I have now a successful BootCamp 6 installation on Windows 10:

Are you referring to Windows activation or Office activation?

office not windows,, it seems that three members in this thread had the same problem i am having.. i think it is because of renaming A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26 in the regedit ... although i renamed it after a successful installation of the boot camp but too bad it missed up my office

If you renamed the entry, look underneath this entry and check the parameters and values are stored in it.

I had to manually kill the RealTek*.exe installer to allow the rest of the setup to run through properly. I waited 45 min for the realtex install to finish, but it never did. Luckily, my audio is working fine as far as I can tell, so I'm no bothered by it.

    Hi,

I am facing the same issue. I am stuck at the step

Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products and find the folder "A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26". Rename that folder to something like "_A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26" or whatever. You can also export it (as a backup) and then just delete it.

I don't see the any folder with the above name. Please help.

The long string may be different. You will need to search the registry to find the correct key. Please back up your Registry before you make any changes and create a Windows System Restore point.

    Hi Loner,

Please mention what to do. And how to do.

    1. 'Backing up registry' is to create a restore point?  Or there is more to it?

    2. How do I tell the key is the correct one? What exactly am I searching the registry for?

    Please, help.

A restore point will work. You can also export the Registry save it to an external flash drive. For the proper key, look for other entries under the  same key to discern what they belong to under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products.

    Hi Loner,

    I don't understand this part.

For the proper key, look for other entries under the  same key to discern what they belong to under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products.

Can you tell what do I do after I open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products ?

Is it possible to post a screen shot of the entries under this entry?
