I can tell you that after weeks of Googling, Apple Support, these boards and everything else, I gave up. I purchased an iPhone 6S which I immediately updated to 9.2, so far, so good, knock on wood.
There seems to be a circular discussion going on here, with a lot of different people having a lot of different issues. I'm not sure what anyone else has done, but I had an iPhone 6 running 9.2, and it still disconnected from my home Wifi on a regular basis. Moreover, it didn't give me the option to reconnect to my home Wifi network, or any other network, it simply did not show any networks as being available. And the only way to resolve that problem was to restart the device, which worked, each and every time, but was not exactly a fix. I had and have had no other issues with any other iOS devices and I have a bunch, they all connect and stay connected to Wifi just fine, it was just my iPhone 6, and that device thankfully is now gone.
Agree with Mr. Finch on Wifi disconnecting when not in use, that's normal, that's a good thing, I understand. On the fence about the wifi extender recommendation from 25fm65, I have that exact same extender, it definitely helped my home coverage area, but I still wonder if that extender somehow started the problem with my iPhone 6. I don't know how it could have, but I can remember when I first connected my iPhone 6 to that extender instead of the main wifi connection, and that's about the time when my problems began. Again, I cannot confirm or deny, I've connected the 6S running 9.2. to the extender then back onto the main wifi network, no problems. I'm just saying it is what it is, be careful.
My problem and it seems like some of the other folks' problems here is that I was never presented with the opportunity to reconnect to Wifi after it disconnected without having to restart the device. I have no idea if it was hardware, iOS, or what, I just know that Apple Support basically gave up on me and told me to either learn to live with it, or get a new phone. So I got a new phone.
I've got new issues now relative to iCloud and Camera Roll versus Photo Stream, which Apple Support is also unable to figure out or provide a solution for, so hopefully I am done with this particular issue so that I can move on to my next issue. Whatever happened to rock solid devices and support that got me moving over to Apple in the first place?
Good luck everyone, I'm done here, at least for now.
