Q: upgrading to osx el captian

favorite

I have a Macbook Pro running osx Mavericks and Windows 8. I have downloaded the installer file for osx El Capitan and want to upgrade to it. However, seeing a few threads like:

https://discussions.apple.com/message/29107659#29107659

How can I make my bootcamp partition bootable again after upgrading to El Capitan?

I'm skeptical whether Windows will work after the upgrade or will I need to re-install it. Can any expert who has tried this help me out with the proper method I might need to follow?

Have you re-sized/re-partitioned your internal disk in any way after Windows and Mavericks were in place?

Can you post the output of the following Terminal commands for the record?

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

Please backup OSX and Windows and create a Windows System Restore point, before you upgrade.

sure, I will post the output.

My major concern is regd bootloader, some users have complained that they cant boot windows after installing os x..in that case system restore of windows also won't work

I have upgraded a 2012 13-in MBP from Mavericks to El Capitan Beta 3, without any issues. Most issues stem from users manipulating the partitions, which cause the NTFS header of the BC/Windows partition to be lost, or corrupted.

Is the current installation of W8 (not W8.1) use EFI, or was it intentionally chosen to be EFI?

You do not have a valid MBR. This is usually the case when EFI Boot was used. If you boot into Windows, can you run msinfo32 and post information similar to the following?

As expected. Please upgrade after you have created baseline backups of OS X and Windows and a Windows System Restore point.
