Does the plastic cover on the back of the sport watch need to be removed in order to charge?

The plastic covers on the charger are removed.

Thank you for the help Jonathan UK,
It was me and not the plastic.
I did not have the charging cord fully plugged into the 5W charger.
Apple watch up and running and at 95% charge.
