Q: Windows will not boot

I'm panicking, I was in the final stages of prepping my old macbook and new macbook systems and ran chkdsk (not with the /B cause it complained since my system is NTFS) but I think it was right after that my bootcamp partition was not bootable (and its been many weeks since I did a backup and was just about to). It shows up in Disk Utility and hope its just a Master Boot Record or an easy fix, also can't view the bootcamp device or any files in Finder. Tried to delete the Recovery partition and EFI to get a MBR fix...I know enough to be dangerous.

After restoring 2010 winclone image to 2015 was then able to shrink the 287GB Winclone partition without an error but it only went down to 249GB (installed in Windows its 160GB and the Winclone image is only 86GB)1225c.png

You will need to stay with this amount. What is the installed memory on the 2010 and 2015 Macs? Does Windows Boot properly? What is the version of Windows (I may have asked this earlier)?  Has OS X been restored on the 2015 Mac?

WWhat about a third party partition resizing tool?

What is the installed memory on the 2010 and 2015 Macs?

    8gb 2010

    16gb 2015

    Does Windows Boot properly?

YEs and have tried doing a Winclone image of the 2015 installed boot camp and resizing it is what worked but only from 280 to 250 and its only 160gb...

What is the version of Windows (I may have asked this earlier)?

    8.1

Has OS X been restored on the 2015 Mac?

no, only a Mac partition (still externally booted)

Winclone is a third-party resizing tool. You can try Linux Live CDs and GParted. Is there a specific reason you are trying to get this to be smaller?

What is the installed memory on the 2010 and 2015 Macs?

    8gb 2010

    16gb 2015

This will also determine the 2015 NTFS size because some file sizes are derived from memory installed.

The 160GB seems to be an error.

    8.1

W8.1 will work as EFI boot as well.

no, only a Mac partition (still externally booted)

Try a restore and check if you get OS X and Windows to work. Be careful with the EFI partition. Can you check if the EFI partition has a Microsoft directory?

I need the extra space on the mac partition.

Maybe Gparted would be an option

In excess of 8gb or 16gb?

The 160GB seems to be an error.

even shows on the 2015 bootcamp or the 2010 win explorer(less here only 146gb):

Not really sure what this is and how to work with it.

    1. Download windirstat from https://windirstat.info and check.

    2. You do have 60+ GB free. You need some space for Windows to work. Use the tool in #1 to find where your disk space is.

    3. Check the sizes of System files. You can always disable Hibernate and Sleep and remove some large files.

    4. Winclone will do the right thing with W8.1.

Please be careful with third-party cleaners in the quest for disk space.
