Does it work with apples native apps i.e. workout & activity or do you need to use the polar app? I would like to use it to record my heart rate during a weights workout in the apple workout app (the apple watch heart rate monitor gives false readings during such workouts)?

The Polar H6 works fine wit the watch native apps (even with glances). Sometimes it doesn't connect but all you've got to do is go the the Bluetooth settings in the iPhone and forget polar H6 HRM sensor.
As to the Watch heart rate accuracy, in my case it's very accurately even in high bpm. Comparisons with the Polar H6, usually lags 2 or 3 bpm, which considering the Bluetooth lag between the polar and the iPhone it's normal. Of course you have to consider the skin tone has some influence in the watch readings, In my case being thin and light skin tone helps to improve the accuracy.

Yes my Apple Watch is also very accurate when in high bpm during cardio workouts such as running. It is only during non rhythmic exercising such as weights workouts that is falters. Iv also read lots of reports about it not operating properly for people during cross fit workouts. I think Apple recognises this problem as I have recently read in their recent info that it operates better during rhythmic/repetitive motion exercising and highlight tennis and boxing as two forms of exercise it might not operate fully. I also have a light skin tone and thin.
