Q: Ready to Play in 32 Hours

I just updated my Apple TV after noticing it was moving very slowly.  After update I rented a movie (same day). The Apple TV had no connectivity issues and no problem renting the movie, however it will not play the movie.  It says: "Ready to Play in 32 Hours". (The time changes constantly, as of this moment it actually says 72 hours.)

I never had this issue previously. I did try restarting the Apple TV.  I also checked my connection speed and made sure my Apple TV was connected to the right home internet, etc.

What is the connection, as per speedtest.net?

Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)

    If on wifi try ethernet

To see a current status of the network, go to istumbler, netstumbler or similar for a report. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks

I'm having a similar problem.  AppleTV 4.  Ready to play in 7, 8, 9 10 hours at times.  We were watching a movie and it stopped after 8 minutes.  Said, ready to play in several hours.  The buffering line kept creeping up and had exceeded the original elapsed time we had already watched.  Connected via Ethernet to an Apple TV time capsule on a consistent 8-10Mbps connection (checked with Speediest on AppleTV as well as elsewhere in the network).  Tried via Wifi 5Ghz just in case.  Same problem.

Restarted routers, AppleTV, unplugged ATV, changed DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google settings).  Nothing.  Even tried another movie.

Most frustrating thing ever to sit down with kids during the vacation to try to watch a family movie and eventually having to send the kids to bed with no movie.  I know, 1st world problems, but still vexing.

I read about a solution that seemed to work for older versions of ATV involving the remote: pressing menu and down arrow simultaneously until it restarted seemed to work for some people.  Doesn't seem to do anything on the new ATV.

    HELP!

How long have you had the TC?

What are the results from the network report?

    Test on another network

DNS should never be changed from auto

Your right at the limit as far as speed is concerned for 1080 and we all know that we don't maintain speed over a matter of hours - especially if your like me and have 2 kids playing online games at the same time as we are watching a movie. I know I get about 10 at my cabin and its slooow. But my house gets around 18 and I have no issues whatsoever....

I have heard of many people having problems when changing DNS from "auto"...

You can try reducing the resolution as a test or you can try increasing ISP speed?
