Q: so...I plugged in my apple tv box, did everything they asked me to do, and waited for the directions to come up on my tv. I'm still waiting....30 minutes later. What am I doing wrong?

30 minutes is definitly long enough. Mine was setup in under 5. You didn't provide much detail so I am not sure what to suggest but here are some links that may be helpful -
