Q: Keeping titles when moving to Photos?

I have iPhoto loaded with ~26000 pictures organized in events and albums. All pictures have manual titles added.  How do I preserve the titles and albums when migrating to Photos?

Are the titles the filenames of the photos or did you manually add them to the title field in iPhoto. If the titles have been entered into the title field manually, Photos will show these titles automatically.  If the filenames are shown as default titles, Photos will not show the  filenames as titles, but you can see them in the Info panel for each photo.

 

Your events will be converted to albums in Photos, and the albums will be migrated, see this document:

If your titles are the filenames as default titles, you may want to use the Batch Change command in iPhoto to write the filenames to the title fields before you migrate the library.

    Thanks for the reply, that eases my fear of transferring.  I added the title to each picture manually, which was a lot of work over the years and I wanted to preserve that.

    You're welcome. 

     

    Which version of iPhoto do you have?  If you have a version, that has been bought from the App Store you could update iPhoto to version 9.6.1 after the migration. You can then keep keep both iPhoto and Photos open and compare the migrated library directly.
