I am not related to the author at all, but I found that there are several apps just for that.  I used Photo Transfer App (not free), there is a free companion app for the Mac.  Put iPhone on WiFi, same network as computer.  Start the app on the iPhone, start Mac app, chose your device on Mac, it will open your albums, Drag and drop which folder you want photos to go.

I also found the Photos app (I think with Maverick and later) will import/transfer photos it you plug you iPhone into a USB port.
