Q: credit in iTunes not used during purchases

It should automatically use your balance, unless it doesn't cover the price of the item plus any applicable taxes (in which case the remainder should be charged to the cried card) or you are the organiser for family sharing. If that's not happening then try removing the card from your account (Change or remove your Apple ID payment information - Apple Support)
