Q: iCloud security code

My new iPod is requesting a approval request to continue using iCloud by entering iCloud security code. Where do I find it?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

What was the exact wording of the message?
Where were you in the setup when you received that message?

! Approval request to continue using I Cloud on this iPod . Approve it from another device or enter security code.
This was on my screen first thing this AM and has been on and off for 5 days or so.

Too much info. I haven't set up a password for icon but it's asking me to change it and doesn't accept that don't have one.
I haven't time to pursue this further now.
