Q: Connect MacBook to iMac using FireWire

I have a problem with my iMac model late 2009. I asked support for help. They provided me with the following answer:

With the iMac turned off connect your Macbook to the iMac using a firewire cable. Start the iMac in Target Disk Mode by holding the T key at startup until you see the firewire symbol on the screen. The iMacs hard disk should mount and become visible as any other external drive on your Macbooks desktop. From there you can recover files to your Macbook or another external. Question: does a late 2009 model MacBook have a FireWire (how many pins?) port?

    No, it does not.

However, you should be able to do it by using an Ethernet cord. You will have to run Migration Assistant on both Macs.
