If you previously got it from the Mac App Store and your Mac’s compatible with it, log in with the same Apple ID and click on the Purchases tab.

If you didn’t but your Mac’s compatible with it, go to a physical Apple Store and ask for it.

If your Mac isn’t compatible with it, nowhere.

Niel,  Thank you for your response.  I did purchase from the App Store and downloaded and installed Yosemite on my Macbook Pro.  No problem very smooth install.  Now I log in on wife's iMac with my ID and account and I do see the App in purchases, but when I click the download it says, "can not install on this computer".  However, her computer is in the range that it should be upgradeable to Yosemite?  So it looks as though her computer is not compatible with the Yosemite upgrade?

Her computer has the OS X 10.6.8, so it looks as though it shoud be upgradeable to the latest OS X El Capitain?  I have just be afraid to try, because of all the negative feedback ratings.  More people seem to hate it then those that love it.  Do you have any experience with Apple's latest OS X upgrade?

Currently she can't sync her iphone on her computer with OSX 10.6.8.  So I'm down to trying the latest upgrade vs buy a new computer.  Thanks again for your input.

Check whether your wife's iMac system requirements matches. Since Mavericks, sys req has not changed.

Actually, since Mountain Lion, system requirements have not changed.
