Q: MacBook Pro won't update

I have a MacBook Pro a few years old, 2011 I believe and I don't think it's been upgraded since bought. It's currently running iOS. 10.6.8. I tried upgrade it 3 times but it goes to restart and just sits on the space background. I can turn it on and off using the power button but when it turns back on it hasnt updated. Really frustrated as need it updated. Please help

!0.6.8 is the maximum upgrade for Snow Leopard. Are you trying to install a newer OSX?

We should keep our terminology correct, otherwise there may be confusion and incorrect information may be offered.

iOS is the operating system for iPhones and iPads.

OSX is the operating system for Mac computers.

Exactly what are you trying to upgrade? The operating system (OSX) to a newer one? If so, your choices are Lion and Mt.Lion which can be purchased from the online Apple store or El Capitan which is free and can be downloaded from the App store. If it is El Capitan, yopu may have to create an App store account first.
