Q: iMessage Suddenly stopped working. Non Apple Contacts are red

Jun 7, 2016 11:35 PMby Sometimes_Silvie,I think I may have a solution... I had this problem and haven't used iMessage for a few months because of it. Last week, I scoured these forums to find an answer and I did, sort of. I hadn't realised that my iMessage was logged out, so I logged back in: So simple and I was kicking myself because I hadn't thought of it. Anyway, when I did, my messages to and from apple users were fine, but all other numbers/contacts stayed in Red, which was very frustrating because it had been working in the past. Again, I just gave up in frustration because there were so many forums with really complicated workarounds that it was driving me crazy (a thing I've found since moving to IOS). Anyway, today I had my iMessage open on my Macbook Pro and about half an hour ago, my husband sent me a message from his Samsung and lo and behold, my iMessage made that pleasant little bell sound to indicate a message had come through and was totally surprised to see it was from him. I checked his number and it's now in Green. I was about to ask my contacts to send me messages asap so that their contacts would also be picked up, but when I checked, they were all Green again, so it seems that just one contact from one non-apple mobile (cell) phone activated them all.
So, first of all, make sure you're logged in (you'll find that in the iMessage Toolbar under "Messages") and then get someone who is not an apple user to send you a message and see if it activates the contact(s) back to Green again. I stumbled on it by pure luck and I hope it helps someone else. Good luck!
