Q: unknown shared pc on finder

Hi everybody,

A couple of days ago i have been seen a unknow shared pc on my finder, so i try some things to remove it from there:

- 1st: i changed the wireless network password

- 2nd: i restore the airport express and reconfigured it

- 3rd: i put my network in acces control mode and listed all my MAC adress of all my devices there

In all cases the unknown pc still there.

Somebody may help me to remove it from my finder or know wich device is it

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

I had a similar problem. I went into System Preferences -> Users & Groups and selected Guest User. I unchecked the "Allow guest users to connect to shared folders" and the mystery "PC" went away.

Still not sure why that was there and if it was a security problem but, since I normally don't need to have a guest user access shared folders, I can assume that the immediate problem has been resolved.

I had this problem a few days ago. Go to settings, advanced, WIN tab. There you'll find the unidentified computer. Delete it add your computers name click plus, and the unidentified computer  disappears.

I have a very similar issue and have posted elsewhere as I have Yosemite. The thing that concerns me is the name of this mysterious thing. Can anyone shed some light on it?

Hi All, I had this issue as well and it turned out to be the little 2GB memory card in my printer.

I also have this problem, although I am unaware of any Hamachi applications I have installed and can't see anything in 25 range of IPs. Also looking in my router admin, there appear to only be 4 devices connected to the network. My iphone, my girlfriends iphone, my iMac and my girlfriends MacBook. Any clues?

I had this problem, too, with a mystery hp listed under "Shared" in my Finder sidebar. After reading through all the suggestions in this (and related) threads, it was removing the guest user that removed the computer (not sure why "allow guest users" should be a default??).

I have the same problem. I am at the beach, on a little Netgear RangeMax N150 wireless router. There are no printers here. I am the only computer on the network, thought a few phones and iPads also are here using it. There are neighbors in houses that are close enough that might be able to get on, but the network is password protected, though it is not a particularly secure password.

I have no VPN things or video games. I am on a Mac Air 2012 with the latest Yosemite OS X operating system.

    Here's the little screenshot:

    Screen Shot 2015-07-21 at 2.50.53 PM.png

Sharing is all turned off in System Preferences.

Clicking on either of those reveals something like this:

    Screen Shot 2015-07-21 at 2.55.03 PM.png

Any thoughts of solutions? Is this a security issue?

Linc, would you look at mine as well?  I closed my shared printers and they went away then reappeared.  I rebooted and they remained…  Thank you, Kimberly  I just disabled guest user and they're gone for now; hopefully not to return.

Something is not right with the answer that "someone are just sharing their PC"...Because how can that piece of information get in to your private network if nothing but the Internet Service provider suppose to have access to show data in to your system?

In other words how can your next door neighbor computer show on yours if he is not connected to your router or wifi? How can you see him if you are "not" connected to his wifi?

For what I understand you can only use one wireless or networking service at time, right? At least on a End User set up.

Check with all users of your computer. See if anyone is a "guest" user for an application, such as Picasa, for editing photos, uploading music, etc. I discovered that a friend had used my computer (with my permission, which I'd forgotten months ago) to upload/download/edit pixes. Once I went to System Prefs-->Users & Groups-->Guest User(Login/Sharing), I saw that I'd granted permission to guests without need of a password. I had checked the boxes permitting guest access to connect to shared folders (which, of course, was necessary for them to edit my pixes). You can option out of that permission as well as any parental controls. When I closed my guest's open screens (you can find those screens by going to your user name on the extreme top right corner of the top menu bar, next to the search icon), the mystery shared computer disappeared. I hope this solves our problems. So far, so good with my system.

Thank you for the observation, is a very good point you made but this is not my case. I double check regardless and there is not a sep up and never been for a guest user.

Sounds like you might have SMB (Windows) Sharing turned on.

To check, go to the System Preferences and click on Sharing. In the list on the left click on 'File Sharing' then there is a little button on the top right called 'options'. In the drop-down that appears check that SMB sharing is un-ticked.
