Q: NO sync outlook 2010 (windows) iOS 9.2 calendar via iTunes 12.3.2.35

Situation :

- Windows 7 (64 bit)

- iTunes 12.3.2.35

- iOS 9.2 (iPhone 6)

History :

- Always synced Outlook data to iPhone over USB cable, all locally (NO iCloud syncing, NO iCloud account)

- This worked very good up to 22.12.2015

- 22.12.2015 : message (not precise) "....can't sync contacts, can not contact ??? server ..."

- Reinstall iTunes

- Syncing OK for contacts, bookmarks, music

- NO Sync at all of calendars, although iTunes shows in the controlbar "synchronisation calendrier" and seems to "do" something

- Overwrite all calendar of iPhone (check box in ITunes infos tab) -> no effect.

- Reset sync history -> no effect.

- All modifications don on either Outlook or iPhone calendar are NOT considered.

    The article is here

If you can't sync contacts and calendars using iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

The line in the article that seems to correspond to your message is

    • You store your Outlook data on your computer in a Unicode PST, not on a server.

But that would be just a guess, I would go through every line just in case.

I followed this article line by line.

    Outlook.pst is located

    "C:\Users\J.xxxxxxx\Documents\Fichiers Outlook"

and was always, also before 22.12.2015

    - No conscient change was applied to the OS, application or settings.

If you have done with the article - talking to Microsoft support would be the next step. Alternatively you can create new user account and move your outlook data there and then see if calendars sync.

    Thanks for the hints.

New Outlook.pst file created (scratch) :

    - Synced one calendar appointment - NO sync in any direction

    - Sync of contact - OK (bidirectionnal creation, modification delete)

    Restored original .pst :

    - Can restore all 6 calendars for all records entered/modified  before 22.12.2015

    - All records/appontments entered since (approx) 22.12.2015 - NO show

    - It's not a size (number of appointments) issue neither, as I began with one calendar of small size - NO showup of appmts entered/modified after 22.12

    - Testappointments enterred -  no sync (bilaterally)

Is there a size limit ?

Exists a filesize limit for .pst ? (1.456 GB)

Creating of new windows user allows to establish if problem is computerwide hardware based or... If new user works, it is your windows user account/outlook setup. Aware of icloud size limits, but not outlook.

The .pst size limit will depend on which flavour of Office you are using. I believe the smallest of the limits was 2.1Gb back in the day.

But there are also other limits mentioned below, perhaps all of that better discussed with Microsoft guys, forums or support by OP?

I don't think .pst size is relevant to the OP's issue. I sync with Exchange so sadly I've no personal experience troubleshooting issues syncing with Outlook.

Neither do I to be honest, over limit would propagate in some different way not the iTunes sync. I think OP was more inclined to ask/think about Itunes sync limits. Sounded like database location shift on the certain date to me thou. If it is internal Microsoft support just backs up database and creates new Outlook profile, I think. Nobody cares about learning what change caused it...

    Thanks for your hints.

Status 30.12.2015 and comments to your inputs :

    (1) Flavour of MS Office :  Microsoft Office Professional 2010

    (2) File size and limits : 1,5 GB .pst file shouldn't be a problem.

    (3) No iTunes limit is assumed

    (4) No db, .pst file location change neither other modifications.

    (5) No Windows update preceeded the problem (last Windows system update 18.12, probl came up 22.12.)

    (6) History :

    - 22.12.2015 : following message came up:

"iTunes n'a pas pu synchroniser contacts avec l'iPhone. Le serveur de synchronisation n'a pas réussi à synchroniser l'îPhone"

    - Free translation would be : "iTunes couldn't sync contacts with iPhone. The synchronisation-server couldn't sync the iPhone"

    - Reinstall iTunes 12.3.2.35 : This resolved syncing of contacts. BUT SINCE THEN ->

    - Above recommendations gave no result.

The message content and new user experiment "gently" point us towards iphone. If you do not mind trying

    1. Backup your phone to itunes

How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support

    2. Erase it by going to Settings -Genera- Reset- erase content.

    3. Setup as new (Do NOT restore from backup when itunes recognize it )

    And then try to sync.

Did erase all and reinitialize iPhone.

    Sync only calendars

    -> No change

    - Appointments entered/modified on Outlook later than 22.12.2015 do not appear on calendar app of iPhone.

    - Sync of contacts of Outlook = ok

    - Sync of bookmarks (Internet Explorer) = ok

I have actually a "new" iPhone w/o any individual purchased app.

I do not restore the backup yet, waiting for comments.

Time to restore from backup and I am out of ideas, besides impression that your database location somehow was shifted on 22nd.

Email I have received from Microsoft about 3 weeks back.

    "

    Dear user,
In a few weeks, we will be making some changes to our email services that might impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live, or @msn email account. Those changes will prevent your email from being delivered to the Windows Live Mail 2012 application you use.
In order to continue using Windows Live Mail 2012 to send and receive email for your account, you need to install the latest update published here.
If you use Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, we recommend that you switch to the built in Mail app in Windows to stay connected and get the latest feature updates on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.
Windows Live Essentials 2009 and 2011 are not supported anymore, and you will need to update to Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 and use the Mail app, or use www.outlook.com. To learn more about the Mail app, please click here.
We also recommend all Windows Live Mail users on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 to upgrade to Windows 10 and use the built in Mail application to stay connected and get the latest feature updates.
We suggest saving this email so you can refer to it later.
Thanks for your understanding and continued use. "

Your problem started 10 days after I got the mail. Perhaps you will not be the first caller with situation like that.

Why only iTunes sync is affected I would like to know, but tt is way better in understanding of underlying programming, where I just troubleshoot by elimination and we just eliminated anything I could think of, besides problem with calendars database location.
