Jul 11, 2015 12:38 PM in response to cliff-drummerby Csound1,You can not download it on a PC, if you could you would not be able to create an OS X bootable disk either. (How did you login to the App Store on a PC?)
Do it on a Mac.

Jul 12, 2015 10:41 AM in response to Csound1by cliff-drummer,I have high speed access in my work place , here we have windows . I cannot take personal things ( My Mac ) to office . Hence was looking to download the installer (App) in office (where wifi is restricted ,all PC's are on LAN network) and use it to create the startup disk on my Mac Pro.
I can login using my apple id in the windows PC,but I guess its no possible to download the Yosemite OS on a Windows PC.I think that its a big limitation since the Installer will never work on a Windows PC so why should Apple feel insecure.
thanks for the help,

Dec 30, 2015 12:34 PM in response to Csound1by MacHesney,He can certainly login to Apple Store from that Windows PC at work, and purchase whatever he wants to. Free downloads of OS X won't happen.
An easier explanation: Apple VERIFIES the compatibility of the computer the request for OS X is made from. Doesn't meet the system requirements, forget it.

Dec 30, 2015 12:49 PM in response to MacHesneyby Dah•veed,The question here isn't about the Apple Store!
The question is about downloading OS X, which is only available through the Mac App Store. The Mac App Store is only accessible through the App Store app on a Macintosh computer. The App Store app is installed by OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (public release) or newer.

Dec 30, 2015 2:47 PM in response to Dah•veedby MacHesney,Yes, now I see I was not in the Apple Store via my Windows 10 PC. My mistake.
Started - http://www.apple.com/osx/I got as far as: "Upgrade Now." https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=1018109117&mt =12&ls=1
Which mildly states that "To download OS X El Capitan from the Mac App Store, you need a Mac with OS X 10.6.6 or later."
I stand by my comment that the brusque response by the other two ignores the hardware check done on even a Mac connected.
For example a mac mini Core Solo upgraded to a later CPU is still just 32-bit, it will run OS X 10.6.8 but is rejected for online OS X upgrades. -

It won't work unless you have a compatible MAC.
