iCloud Drive is not intended to replace your HDD or backup drive for backup. It is to be used with iWork and iDevice documents.

I don't understand what you mean. iCloud Drive and Dropbox are not the same. And, it is not clear what you want or need. Maybe if you defined that for yourself, then researched cloud storage alternatives you could make a proper decision. Apparently, you have not researched iCloud Drive thoroughly.
