Q: Faulty Autolock on watch

After working perfectly for 8 months, my watch has started constantly auto locking and needing the passcode whilst firmly on my wrist.

- I've done a full reset

- I've switched off both the watch and phone then re-paired

- I've cleaned the sensors - which appear unamaged

- I've tightened the fit on the band

All the fitness tracking appears to be working properly - APART from the 'stand' measure, which isn't recording at all.

All ideas gratefully received - many thanks!

    Hi Deb

Try disabling and re-enabling both Passcode and Wrist Detection (note that this will remove any cards that you may have added to Apple Pay on your watch):

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wrist Detection - turn off.

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Passcode > tap on Turn Passcode off.

If this does not resolve the issue, then, given the steps that you have already tried, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked under warranty:

Thanks a lot Jonathan - appreciate your advice.

Tried your suggestion, but the 'turn passcode off' is greyed out and unresponsive.

    looks like a return!

In that case, you likely have passcode restrictions enforced on your iPhone (via a corporate configuration profile, mobile device management or Exchange policy). These also affect Apple Watch, so you will not be able to turn off the passcode.

However, you should certainly still proceed with contacting Apple Support or with making a Genius Bar reservation.
