Oct 8, 2015 11:18 AM in response to wbowlesby alex_h1,Hello wbowles,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I see that you're unable to sign in to the App Store on your Mac. As a first step of troubleshooting this issue I suggest that you start your computer in safe mode and try to login to the App Store. This would prevent any applications that block ports or communication from starting up with your Mac.
Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.
- Start or restart your Mac.
- Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
- Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.
To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support
If the issue persists after that, then I suggest following through the steps in the link below. Even though you're not getting an error like the title of the article says, the same troubleshooting applies to what you're running into.
Take care.

Oct 8, 2015 11:59 AM in response to alex_h1by wbowles,Hi,
done all this and all the stuff on the page you recommended, still no go. Also, and I don't know if this has anything to do with it, since upgrading to El Kapitan (where do they get these names?) the App Store app has two ancient programmes that allegedly I need to update: iPhoto March 19 2015 and Garage Band, even older, March 7 2012!
I think it's upgrade wot done it and unfortunately, when the bring out an another update, I wont be able to access it!

Oct 8, 2015 1:39 PM in response to alex_h1by wbowles,I've just reinstalled 10.11, the ancient programmes have disappeared from App Store but that's the only thing that's changed. I can't login from iTunes either but I can log in here using the same combo, so what gives?

After upgrading to El Capitan (10.11.2) ...
...no App Store, iTunes, nor any iCloud services.
My apple ID is working fine on my other mac and on my iPhone.
