Q: corrupt quicktime movie file

I am struggling to open a corrupt quicktime movie file from an SD Card. There's no reason why it should be corrupt, except that I was filming at the end of the card's time & space limit. I've done this hundreds of times but not it says the file is corrupt..

How did the files from your camera get to your computer? Do you still have the card with the file structure intact?

Hi Russ, I don't have the original file on the actual SD card. I do have it on my desktop as I transferred it there, as I normally do.

So it's a complete copy of the card – not just individual files?

I brought in every file from the card onto my desktop and I have now moved those files into various folders. Every other file opens perfectly and as normal, except this one. The file appears to be exactly the same as it was on the card and on my desktop after I copied it.

Well, whatever the cause, it was camera/card-related and now there is some information that QT is looking for that is missing or been altered.

One alternative you might try is opening in VLC and exporting as an mp4. Another possibility is MPEG Streamclip.

Or download Pro Maintenance Tools (there is a trial version) and see whether it can repair it. I know there are some other third party apps that some people have used with success, but I have no experience with them; a search will turn them up/

    Good luck.

Let us know how you make out.
