Sep 30, 2015 10:12 PM in response to krissoundzby legendary1906,I've found a solution that is different from anything that I've read on here so far. I've tried all of the above solutions over the last few months with no results. So I decided to search through different processes in activity monitor and that's when it hit me.
Hopefully this works for you too.
1. Go to activity monitor on your mac (all models that support airplay).
2. Click the "Network" tab
3. Search for "airplay" (two processes should appear)
4. Highlight the process "airplayXPCHelper
5. Quit the process
6. Relauch Airplay to your Apple TV.
7. Reply to let me know if it works for you also. That way others can skip all of the other solutions and get back to smooth streaming.
Thanks.

Oct 27, 2015 12:36 PM in response to legendary1906by Twizted1,Didn't work for me. I have tried turning off bluetooth, resetting all the settings on my apple tv, doing this last suggestion, resetting my routers, unplugging the ethernet cable, nothing works. Still have choppy video on both of my Apple Tv's.
Also want to add, I have the same problem on my MacBook Air.

Oct 29, 2015 5:20 AM in response to krissoundzby sgginc,Somewhere around page 9 there was a comment that
Apple support said this was not meant to work except
in iTunes.
I am able to AirPlay iTunes content with no lag.
Very strange.
Some can get it to work while others like me have tried everything with no luck.

Oct 29, 2015 8:16 AM in response to legendary1906by luxlamf,This appears to be working well. I had just about given up on having this work on my Macbook Pro as I have stopped updating it at 10.9.5 while my iMac is up to date and appears to have worked itself out of this problem.

Oct 29, 2015 8:18 AM in response to sggincby luxlamf,I still cannot get airplay to "Mirror" to my TV etc.. without video stutter etc.... but audio flows well while video is bad. It's odd that they offer such things that do not perform at all well enough to be considered a "Feature".

Nov 1, 2015 3:00 PM in response to bitemdownby pkerr,Same problem here with El Captain MBP 2013, Apple TV 4 (the new one, Nov 2015) and the old one Apple TV 2 (2011).
It is ridiculous that everything works from my iPhone and iPad (No lag mirror and great quality) but from my 3,000 laptop it is total disaster and I have plug the laptop into HDMI.

Nov 18, 2015 11:26 AM in response to krissoundzby peterpaulfromvenlo,HI folks, I read all of the stories in this thread and found out this: my Apple TV automatically had detected a wrong output TV resolution. It had detected 1080P 60Hz but my TV is 50Hz. I changed this and to my TV's resolution and even the bluetooth can be switched on again...

Nov 26, 2015 1:48 PM in response to supersupby goloveychuk,Had this problem. Interestly, but I solved this by going from ethernet connection to wifi. Looks like I have 100mbit on cable and 300mbit on wifi. Router - tplink 941. Looks like 90% of lags - network speed issue.

Dec 30, 2015 8:49 PM in response to krissoundzby pigeon666,i guess it is not a problem when watching a rented movie on itunes... they dont want us to stream free ****!

Jan 1, 2016 2:14 PM in response to krissoundzby mistoks,i've tried all of the suggestions on here even swapped routers and switches. From what i've gathered it does seem to be bluetooth causing the issue. Just ensure you disable it on the apple tv as only disabling it on the mba didn't make a difference

Jan 9, 2016 8:13 AM in response to krissoundzby rlnorris01,Stumbled on this thread thought I'd add my two cents... Admittedly I haven't read all of the posts so if this is a repeat I'm sorry. I have a late 2013 MBP and have had the same problem my solution (not perfect but very usable) when mirroring...select "use as separate display" and run safari from the second screen...also select output device "internal speakers" from the sounds menu... i'm not sure but I think it has to do with the resolution of my tv and the MBP. I can watch anything from safari with reasonable quality and no sound lag. Hope It works for others too.

Jan 26, 2016 9:12 AM in response to krissoundzby olsendemeg,Hi guys,
I have spent a week trying all the tips I could find in this discussion to sort out the lagging which I encountered with my iMac and my Air on Apple TV3.
kmjansenNCSU is spot on I think, which works well for Apple since they have to force more people to use the isheep iTunes.
In other words, for me, the only thing that stopped the lagging (including ethernet here and there, BT off, changing wireless channels, activity monitor etc) was playing the movie in iTunes.
Even though I'm very grateful to you guys for easing my very annoyed mind I will actually now consider the Chromecast...
