Jan 1, 2016 3:17 PM in response to 35406by AJ397,Check the security software on the computer. Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support
Check your security software
Errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006.
Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't blocking a connection to the Apple servers.
If you still see the error message, check for USB connection issues.

Jan 1, 2016 4:13 PM in response to 35406by LACAllen,This is likely a very inelegant way of telling you the update server doesn't have the version of iOS you need.
Call Apple. Tell them you have an original iPad and you want iOS 5.1.2 for it. they'll know what to do.
