Q: Materials are not being retained on the iPad

I have used iTunes U with my maths classes with great success for several years now. However, with the latest app update I have many students complaining that they download the materials while they are at school but when they arrive home they find the materials are gone. Many of my students have no internet access at home so being able to store the course content on their iPad for use at home is crucial.

I know that this was not the case before but has suddenly started with the recent iTunes U upgrade, as multiple student have been disrupted by this issue.

Are there any new settings that I'm not aware of that may be causing this issue or is it glitch on the iTunes U server end? The "storing material on the iPad" feature is what drew me to use iTunes U over other content delivery options so it's very disappointing that it has started playing up and disrupting my student's ability to learn.

Looking forward to a solution.

We are having a similar issue in two iTunes U courses that our students use nightly videos in.  About a 25% of our students have "black screen" experience  after they are home.  Watching 10-15 seconds of the video after download while in school was a suggestion to reduce the issue.  It seems to help some.  Do not shut off iPad after download is important but not our issue.  Do you have a work around or a solution for this issue for students with out wifi at home? I have noticed the same thing.  And it seems like the downloaded materials are still taking up space on my ipad, even though they are not accessible through the iTunes U app.  It appears that they are being included in the total for "Documents & Data" in the iTunes U storage information (in the iPad settings), rather than being associated with a specific course.

Same here. I cannot see the materials through the iTunes U app, but when I go to storage and usage in settings, they are listed as there in the Documents and Data. However it does list them as being that course specifically.

I have tried unchecking that course in the iTunes pane when syncing, and then rechecking it, but it doesn't make any difference.

If I am in WiFi range, it will show those classes as having a 'cloud' symbol, and clicking it can play the class as streaming. It doesn't download the class and put it on the iPad.

I have an iPad 2, and have just upgraded to iOS9.2, but that hasn't fixed the problem (though it did fix the Podcasts one-yay!)
