It sounds like the device is in Recovery Mode. However, you say that you received error messages, what was the exact text of those error messages, including any numbers? That's usually indicative of a hardware fault.

Make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple Store and have it checked.

Like KiltedTim says, many of those errors are indicative of hardware problems.
