Q: I just need to purchase a song that is not available in itunes country, its only available in the USA. Is there anything I can do as all my efforts so far have not been successful. Thanks

I am trying to purchase a song that's not available in the itunes South Africa. The song I am trying to buy is only on itunes USA. Is there anything that I can do because usually all I need to do is switch shops but it doesn't seem to be working on this particular song. Thanks

You need to be in a country to use its store, so unless you are in the US with a US billing address on your account then you can't buy from the US store - you can only use the South African store. You can try requesting that the song be added to the South African store, but unless the rights-holder agrees to it then Appl won't be able to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

Thanks for the feedback. In the past I have had no problems when changing shops. I have requested iTunes for the song to be made available on iTunes South Africa and will wait to hear from them. Appreciate your assistance

Hey! Sorry this is an old post so I am hoping you see my comment.

I am trying to purchase a song I heard in South Africa that isn't available in the USA! Maybe I can purchase the song you want and send it to you and you could purchase the song I want and send it to me?

That won't work, gifting doesn't work between countries - the recipient has to be in the same country as yourself, with a billing address in that country on their account.

I think we could just email the file with the song? But that might be against policy. Ugh wish I had bought it while I was still there!

Hi I have just made a suggestion to Apple

Hi Apple I am trying to buy this album... I have a suggestion for Apple to save you time. If an Artist or His Estate adds his music to Itunes they must say which countries they do not want to sell in.... Why would any artist not want to be global. I bought this album (I requested) in the UK, lived in SA, now in Australia and at the time of popularity you could buy it anywhere just like most popular music today... What would the difference be between a CD and audio file?

I agree that some music may have different distribution rights, but whoever is getting the cut will get the cut....

Why would any distributor not want to be automatically available to the world?

    Thanks

As well as different countries possibly having different rights-holders, they may also do exclusive deals with a download store in a particular country - when the rights-holder grants Apple a license to sell their content they select which countries for that license
