Q: how to restore iphone when the versions are not compatiable

i just got a new phone, and i am trying to back it up but the new phone version is 9.0 and the backup was 9.2,

 

if i start the phone as a new phone update the version can i back it up at a later date?

iPhone 6s, iOS 9
