Q: Why can't Final Cut Pro X work on a WAN?

I have a 24tb NAS I am using and switching all my videos and movies to it. The NAS is connected to my wireless router (and not directly to my computer).

I run Aperture off it right now with no problem, but when ever I try to open my FInal Cut Pro X file off it, I get an error that reads:

Chose a local or SAN location.

Can anyone help me understand what's going on. Why can't I access the file? How can I create a work-around?

Thanks so much,

WiFi is way too slow for video editing, to start with.  You'd end up with so many headaches it wouldn't be funny.  FCPX only works on wired networks, for that reason.  The bandwidth FCPX requires, meaning multiple video and audio streams reading/writing at one time, is very heavy.  WiFi is simply not up to the task.  So your question is not about WAN, but about WiFi.

Thanks Ben, I didn't know the best way to ask the question. I've noticed it works fine on the external hard drives connected to the computer. I'll work on another plan; thanks.

Run an Ethernet cable from you Mac to the Airport base station.  Or just put the NAS directly on your Mac.  Is there any reason to have your storage networked?

    Ben,

Great question! First, my wifi/router is in the basement and I sit upstairs, thereby making connecting the two a challenge. Secondly, I am using a WD 24TB NAS, and for some reason, you can not connect it directly to the computer. It will not work that way. As my friend laughed at me and said, "what part of N - Network don't you understand?" Darn it.

    Thanks again,
