Q: My Photo Stream to Mac Question

I Do not have iCloud Photo Library enabled on my iPhone. I do have My Photo Stream enabled. When I take a picture on my phone, it shows up on my Mac and my iPad.

1. When the picture shows up on my Mac through My Photo Stream, I believe the picture is lower resolution then the version on  my phone. Correct?

2. If it is lower resolution and I make a photo book from my Mac, does that mean (I think it does) that I am going be making a photo book with the lower resolution pictures?

3. If so, should I connect my phone to the Mac and manually import the pictures into my Mac in order to get the high resolution pictures?

4. I don't manually import the pictures into the Mac and only rely on My Photo Stream to get the pictures onto the Mac,  will those pictures ever "expire" or do they stay on the Mac until I delete them?

Thank

No, not on a Mac. My Photo Stream transfers the photos to your Mac at the full resolution.  See:  My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support

What resolution are My Photo Stream photos?

On a Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV, your photos are delivered in a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space.

Dimensions will vary, but an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution when pushed to your devices. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

It is only with Shared Albums, that the photos may e transferred to a Mac with a lower resolution.

Thx. That is helpful. That also seems to answer some of my other questions. I was worried that if I only "get" photos onto my Mac through My Photo Stream, they won't "stay" on my Mac unless I connect my phone to the Mac and manually import them. But it seems as if my setting on Photos on my Mac will allow me to automatically "import" all the photos from My Photo Stream into the Photos on my Mac and then I won't "lose" them after a period of time. Similar to as if I connected my phone to the Mac with a cord and manually imported them. (Correct)?

Yes, that is right. You can import the Photos from My Photo Stream permanently to your Mac.
