Q: Your setup couldn't be started because of an unexpected error.

Hi,icould outlook setupo error.png

I have been using icloud with my PC, iphone for a while. I started to get double entries and missing new entries from the phone. At first I thought it was because i use Brewster app on the phone. I removed the app. Started to clean my contacts in outlook but was not getting the new contacts from the phone. So I signed out of icloud and saved contacts to outlook. I then restarted windows 7 and tried to sign back in this is when I started to get error messages. I have reinstalled Outlook and icloud and am running Outlook 2007 with icloud 3.0 When I try to sign in and set up Outlook with icloud it fails with the error message "Your setup could't be started because of an unexpected error. So I click the report button and it crashes. Close the program Apple Outlook Dav Config then start again and it says Outlook is running. Open tast Manager and find Outlook.exe is running and End Process, setup again runs then ends with the same error message.

Anyone got any ideas?

    Hello JinxUK,

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the iCloud Control Panel.  I found an article referencing the error message you are getting:

“Your setup couldn't be started because of an unexpected error.”

Apple is investigating this issue. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.

I recommend saving that link so that you can check back for a resolution when it becomes available.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Best,

I am having he same issue.

My calendar stopped syncing between iphone and Outlook on the PC.  I read: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3999 which says :

    • Turn iCloud Calendar off and back on:
      1. Close Outlook.
      2. Open the iCloud Control Panel: ...
      3. Deselect the checkbox next to Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Tasks, and click Apply. Wait a few seconds, then replace the checkmark and click Apply.
      4. Open Outlook and test to see if the issue has been resolved.

When I recheck the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" box the set-up fails with nothing but this far from illuminating "unexpected error" message.

So what do I do now please?

    I found a fix that worked :

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16542918#16542918

I backed-up up my contacts and calendar from my personal folder file and deleted everything.  At the end, everything is downloaded back to the Outlook (2007 in the case) on my laptop just as if it was a new ipad /iphone.

I hope that is the end of it ...

This worked for me as well.  Was fixing the problem that My Photo Stream was not updating PC from iCloud, so uninstalled/reinstalled icloud control panel on PC (Vista).  But got the indicated error when I then tried to set up iCloud again.  Spent full day worrying about the fix, then after reviewing this site tried deleting (after backup) all Outlook Contacts and Calendar items on my PC (Scary).  ICloud then set up OK, downloading all contacts and calendar items back into Outlook.  This also fixed the My Photo Stream breakdown.  So far I see no issues with the reloaded stuff.  The original Outlook Cal item Categorize colors even came back.  I was thinking these might be lost, as the Cal on iPhone and iPad don't seem to use the categorization colors.  Hope this setup holds a while.

I had exactly the same problem. I was told that as I use a Windows pc that the windows updates may have caused a conflict. I have Office 365

    - I backed up my outlook (.pst) file

    - Once backed up I removed all my contacts.

    - I closed Outlook and opened iCloud Control Panel.

    - I ticked 'Contacts, Calendars & Tasks' and clicked on 'apply'

    - presto!! Full recovery of everything that was in the cloud.

Only issue is that I have 2 iCloud Calendars, but that's the least of my worries - at least all my appointments are there ... I'll cope!

    Thanks Lumbo

I've had this problem repeatedly (Win 7 - 64 Bit & Outlook 2013). After trying various things this finally worked.

Logged out of Outlook and iCloud

Went to Control Panel > Microsoft Office > Change > Repair (not sure if this was necessary, but I wasn't going to take any changes)

Uninstalled and reinstalled iCloud  control panel (not sure if this was necessary either, but I wasn't going to take any changes)

In the iCloud panel, when I did the usual install it still gave me the error (hence not sure if the reinstalls above made a difference)

Here's what I did differently that worked.

    - Only checked 'Photos' and nothing else - Installed/Synced that

    - Added 'Bookmarks' - Installed/Synced that

    - Then I checked Outlook ... and what do you know, it worked.

No idea why it worked, but it did.

Followed all the advice on here to no avail.  But then, on ticking the 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Tasks' option, selected the lower option (only select some calendars), deselected everything except for the outlook calendar, and that fixed it. Using Outlook 2013 with Windows 10
