Q: Swaping my hard drive to another MacBook Pro

Hi Folks

I got another MacBook pro of my friend, as he upgraded. he Had sold his hard drive to someone. so it came without a HDD. However this was good for me as I upgraded my other MacBook to 1TB/SSD.

I was then left with my old 500GB Yosemite HDD. The question is do I have to wipe this drive/erase, to mac extended journal, before I can install? I have got backups on my external hard drive of this one as well.

I have done this before with my mac mini, but I cant remember, got a mind like a sieve

Any tips will be very helpful.

Regards

Cap

That is a file transfer error. You cannot drag and drop to get an install. It must be done off an installer . Ether though recovery or a bootable USB drive. If in target disk mode you could not run an install through the other computers recovery You would have to have an install download form the app store in the other computers application folder. Right now that would be El Capitan as Yosemite is not there.

yes and that wouldn't work, as its not letting me do anything? there is one more thing I want to try, I will get back to you later. I think I might need a cable.

Thanks for your help by the way.

    Hey man

I got a replacement cable for 10 bucks.

if it isn't that, then i can always keep it anyway for spares.

It must be though, i was reading a few things and seemingly this model was notorious for this cable problem. I can't think of anything else, it works fine every other way.

    Keep you posted

    Cheers
