Q: iOS9 Airdrop to Mac not working

Trying to connect iPhone 6+ iOS9 to 2013 iMac OS X 10.10.5 via Airdrop but not showing up on iMac or iPhone, worked perfectly before iOS 9.

iPhone can Airdrop to another iPhone and iMac can Airdrop to another Mac, but not iPhone to/from Mac.

iOS update was originally done OTA and have reinstalled through iTunes.

Have tried all suggestions I have come across but still they won't connect.

Anyone have similar problems?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 21.5 in 2.9GHZ i5 16 GB

I already solved my Airdrop problem . You may reset the PRAM as others would suggest. But, this is what I did: reset the network settings of your iOS device. If your Mac would normally recognize other Macs, even the old models that are capable of Airdrop, but not iOS devices, reset network settings of your iOS device. Here's how:

    1. Go to Settings>General.

    2. Go to General>Reset.

    3. Within the Reset section, choose Reset Network Settings.

    4. Your iDevice will reset, but just quickly; showing the Apple logo and a loading bar.

    5. Let it load then turn on Wi-Fi (you may connect to a Wi-Fi router by re-inputting the password since settings were reset to factory settings) and Bluetooth;           set visibility to Everyone.

    6. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your Mac..

    7. Go to Finder>Airdrop, or command+shift+R.

    8. Wait until for your iOS device gets recognized.

*Airdrop can work as long as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are activated regardless if you're connected to the internet; Airdrop doesn't need internet connection

    *Macbook Air 13" mid-2013, OS X El Capitan 10.11.2

    *iPhone 5C, iOS 9.2

I have a similar problem. No matter what I try, reset Mac Book RAM and iPhone network settings airdrop was not working. At a friend's house it was working, when I was returning home it wasn't. I tried 4 different routers. One was exactly like my friend's. Same model, firmware, settings, same everything! Airdrop was not working. I installed Yosemite on an external drive, when I boot in Yosemite it works! In El Capitan it's not working no matter what!

If they had intensionally design Airdrop to have such a faulty behavior I don't think they could have been so successful!

I have an iMac 5K and an iPhone 6s and iPad Air2. All of them with the very latest OS.

Airdrop works FROM iPad/iPhone to iMac but not the other way around.

I have an iPhone 6S, a MacBook Pro Mid-2012, and a MacBook Pro Retina Mid-2015. The iPhone runs iOS 9.2 and the MacBooks run OS X 10.11.2. At home I have no problem to get AirDrop working between the MaxBooks, but the iPhone is not showing up at all. I have a switched network at home (star configuration) and all units are connected to the same WiFi AP using 802.11n.

At the office we connect trough an EDUROAM WiFi AP using 802.11a with 802.1x authentication. AirDrop works flawless on all three devices.

This indicates that in my case the problem seems to be related to the network configuration. Either the 802.11 protocols (as implemented by iOS and OS X) or some form of radio interference at home that prevents  the iPhone from seeing the Macs and vice-versa. The interference can be due to other WiFi APs I have in my house, although each AP is configured to a different channel.

I have fiddled with  most wireless settings on the WIFI AP and also tried the suggestions from earlier posts, but nothing helped.

I had a similar issue as stated on my previous post; my Macbook Air was able to Airdrop connect with another Mac in an Apple store but did not recognize my iPhone 5C. I found in website that resetting the iPhone's network setting to factory setting (just the network setting not resetting the whole iPhone) may solve the issue; it actually fixed mine, and now I can easily Airdrop at home or anywhere else. Actually, even though Macs and iOS devices are not connected to a router you can still perform Airdrop as long as both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on the computer and on the device; to be sure alao being visible by "Everyone". Also, I did not perfrom a PRAM reset, just the "Reset Network Setting" of the iPhone.

    Hope this helps.

I did try your advice before posting here, alas, to no avail. I will give it another shot later tonight. Could you be so kind to provide details about your WiFi configuration: protocol 802.11a/b/g/n, WEP/WAP/WAP2/WAP2-PSK, authentication and encryption (AES, AES+TKIP), frequency band (2.4GHz/5GHz), channel used when it works.

I'll try to match your configuration at home and then reset the network settings on my iPhone.

Just an idea, try ticking the File Sharing and Bluetooth Sharing options under Sharing in System Preferences. Then, add Bluetooth File Sharing with an option for it to Allow Incoming Connections in the "Firewall Options..." under the Firewall tab of Security & Privacy os System Preferences.

Since AirDrop works from iPad/iPhone that's an indication that the iMac accepts incoming connections. The problem seems to be in the reverse direction. I would try turning off the firewall entirely.

JohnHou check on your iPad/iPhone under General/Restrictions if AirDrop is blocked.

Thanks, your settings look identical to mine, except for the Channel. I'll try to lock my AP to Channel 11 and see if it helps.

Well I have no problem sending between iPad and iPhone and sending to iMac. It's sending from the iMac that is not working.

But I'll check your advise and also re-start the wi-fi connection on all my "i-things".

Thank you. Will look into it. The fun part is that handoff works great from iMac to iPhone/iPad.
