Q: Trying to use pictures for photo in imovie.

hello everyone,

I run a 2009 mac book pro and I used iMovie and iPhoto a lot. Ever since I update my computer to el captain  iPhoto changed to photos and Im having trouble pulling pictures for photos to iMovie. When I was using iPhoto before I update the el captain I would simply click on the media bar in iMovie to bring up pictures from iPhoto and I could drag them into iMovie but I cant do that after I updated to el captain and having to use this new app photos instead of iPhoto. when I click on the media button in iMovie now using this new app photos my picture do not show up in the media box and I get a message saying no media found. Is there anyway I can get this new app photos to work or talk to iMovie like iMovie and iPhoto use to do?

Thanks

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Which version of iMovie are you using?   iMovie 10.1 does show the Photos library in the Media section.

I see what your saying I'm running iMovie version 8.0.6 (821) so I guess I need to upgrade to iMovie 10.1 ? will the things I have edited in the 8.0.6 version transfer over to the 10.1 version? or do I need to back it up on an external hard drive and bring it in after I have upgraded to 10.1 version?

When I update to iMovie 10.1 it left my older iMovie 9.0.9 installed. I can use both concurrently.

But make a full backup of your Mac, before you update iMovie. This way you can easily restore the old version from the backup should something go wrong.

iMovie 10.1 opened automatically all my older project.  But ask in the iMovie forum, if there e will be differences when iMovie 8 projects are upgraded, I did not migrate directly from version 8 to 10, so I cannot be sure.
