Q: Can family sharing ask to buy replace restrictions on App Store and iTunes Store?

My daughter has an iPod I with both 'ask to buy' enabled and restrictions set so I have to put in Apple ID password for each purchase on the iPod too. This seems like too much. If I take off the iTunes and App Store restrictions, am I still in control of content she can download?

Yes you can change the Restrictions to only rely on Ask to Buy as long as they are younger than 18 as determined by the birthdate entered for their Apple ID.

Approving purchases with Ask to Buy

You can turn on Ask to Buy to require approval for purchases initiated by any family member who is under 18 years old.*

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    1. Tap Settings > iCloud > Family, and tap your family member's name.
    2. Turn on Ask to Buy.

    On your Mac

    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
    2. Click Manage Family and select your family member's name.
    3. Select Ask to Buy.

Ask to Buy is enabled by default for any children under 13 years old, and can be enabled during the setup process for any children 13-17 years old.* You can't turn on Ask to Buy for adults.

If you don't wish to be billed for purchases initiated by a specific adult family member, you can remove that family member from the family group.
