You seem to be using the original iPad which cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1.  Many newer apps are not available for the older operating system.  I'm only guessing that this may be your issue.

Here is a website that gets updated regularly where you can search for apps that are still compatible with iOS 5.1.1
