Apple WatchHi Stephen
If you are trying to wake your screen from sleep, tap it instead of swiping it.
If you meant something else, please explain your question in more detail.

Apple WatchHi Stephen
Thank you for clarifying.
If no notifications are awaiting your attention in the Notification Centre, when you swipe down on the watch face, you should see a screen that is blank except for a notice that there are "No Notifications".
If the green (red) status icon is shown, but you still do not see any notifications after swiping down, it may help to restart your iPhone and your watch:
Turn both devices off together first, then restart your iPhone before restarting your watch:
- To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off;
- To turn it on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Apple WatchIf you would like to view all Messages and/or emails on your watch (rather than just notifications):
- Go to the Home screen (via a single press on the Digital Crown) > tap on the Messages app icon.
- Go to the Home screen > tap on the Mail app icon.
The apps can also be opened using Siri (for example, "Hey Siri, open Messages").
