2. Its quite abnormal to have them break unless you are doing something to them. I've still have the lightning cable that came with my iPhone 5, 3 years ago, and its perfectly fine.
My iPhone 6 lightning cable from around 9 months ago still in perfect condition.
Perhaps you would like to go back and look at how you are handling the cables that is leading to breakage.
