Q: Is there any way to get a duplicate receipt of my original purchase?

We recently had a burglary and my 4 year old Macbook Air was stolen. Our insurance company is requiring purchase receipts - I changed my email during this time and can't access the old stuff.

Any suggestions?

I don't know how long any store keeps records; do you have a Time Machine backup that goes back a long way? Or a paper copy stashed away?

A bit late for this suggestion, but it may help in the future:

Any time I purchase anything that costs more than $100 or has a warranty, I scan/copy the purchase receipt; one copy goes in a folder on my hard drive and a paper copy/original goes in a safe place.

I also burn a DVD of a spreadsheet listing all contents along with copies of any receipts for electronics, and anything costing more than $500 or so. I update that data once a year and my home insurance agent gets a copy of the DVD. Aside from my copies, another copy is at a neighbor's house for safekeeping in case of fire or such.

Hope I never need it, but it will make the process a whole lot easier if I do.
