A Thunderbolt display can only be used with a Mac that has a Thunderbolt port.

Jan 7, 2016 11:14 PM in response to Dr.Mac.by Lanny,★HelpfulAnd, given that Thunderbolt 1 has a 10 Gbps capability, that Thunderbolt 2 has a 20 Gbps capability, and that the MacBook's USB-C port is limited to 5 Gbps capability, the likelyhood of such an adapter is doubtful. There is now way that such an adapter could be called a Thunderbolt adapter with that kind of limitation.
